Slovenia 5-Day Itinerary with a Local Guide
An adaptable five-day planning example based in Ljubljana, connecting city walks, lakes, caves and the Karst through existing day tours.

A planning idea, not a package
This five-day outline is a way to organise your own stay, not an advertised multi-day package. Accommodation, transport arrangements and individual tours need to be chosen and confirmed separately. Using Ljubljana as a base can reduce hotel changes, but the right plan depends on your arrival time, energy and interests. Keep the order flexible so a weather-sensitive day can move when necessary.
Day 1: understand Ljubljana on foot
Begin with a Ljubljana walking tour and a manageable introduction to the city. The river, bridges and historic centre provide a useful framework for understanding the capital before exploring independently. Choose a tour duration that fits your arrival day rather than booking a full schedule immediately. Leave time afterwards to return to a favourite square or café, and decide separately whether to add the castle or another paid attraction.
Day 2: make the lakes your priority
Use the Bled and Bohinj tour to contrast two Alpine settings. Decide beforehand whether your priority is a boat visit, a castle, lakeside walking or simply time to appreciate the landscape. Combining both lakes does not leave unlimited time for every option. Protect a proper lunch break and avoid adding an evening commitment that makes the return journey feel rushed.
Day 3: explore Postojna and Predjama
Give this day a clear focus on the cave and castle. The cave's scheduled entry should anchor the plan, while the remaining stops fit around it. Pack a warm layer for the underground visit and discuss the walking involved in advance. A change of setting from the lakes also helps the trip feel varied without requiring a different hotel every night.
Day 4: choose Kamnik and the mountains
Explore Kamnik and consider Velika Planina when conditions and the agreed programme allow. The plateau's pastoral traditions offer a different perspective from the better-known lake scenery. Keep a lower-altitude alternative available if weather or operations change. If your group needs a lighter day, reduce the activities rather than treating every listed possibility as an obligation.
Day 5: finish with the Karst
Choose Simply Karst for another distinct landscape and cultural setting. Review the particular itinerary, entrance requirements and optional costs before choosing activities. Keep the final day compatible with onward travel: a full-day excursion is not a sensible addition immediately before a flight unless timings have been explicitly checked. If departure makes the plan too tight, retain a relaxed Ljubljana morning instead.
Make the five days work for you
Select the individual tours below and check current durations, prices and inclusions. Share the whole outline when discussing bookings so meeting points and the overall pace make sense together. Reserve free time for meals and independent discoveries. A guide can help connect the places into a coherent story, while your priorities determine which stops deserve the most time.
