Program
Congress Square
The tour kicks off at Congress Square, a historic hub surrounded by some of the city's most stunning architecture. Here, you'll also encounter the city's ancient roots, as the square showcases remnants of Ljubljana's Roman heritage from the era when it was known as Emona.
National and University Library
From there, you'll head to the National and University Library, the masterpiece of Jože Plečnik. He is the visionary architect who defined Ljubljana's unique character, and it is thanks to his incredible work that large parts of the city are now protected as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Križanke Summer Theater
The journey continues to the Križanke Summer Theater, a unique site that was once the seat of the Knights of the Teutonic Order. This is also where you will discover the surprising connection between Napoleon and Ljubljana — you'll learn why the French Emperor played such a vital role in the history of central Slovenia and the Illyrian Provinces.
The Old Town & Prešeren Square
Next, you'll walk across the Cobblers' Bridge into the oldest part of town. Here, you will pass the Town Hall (Rotovž), the seat of the city's government for centuries, before arriving at Prešeren Square. This iconic square is dominated by the Franciscan Church and connected to the famous Triple Bridge. Nearby, you'll find Plečnik's Market and the Cathedral — the market is a must-see, especially on Saturdays when it's extra lively and full of local energy.
Ljubljana Castle
Just a short walk away is the funicular station, which zips you up 70 meters in a minute to reach Ljubljana Castle, the city's most famous landmark. At the castle, you can take in incredible views from the Outlook Tower or explore the interior, which features several museum exhibits including 'Slovenian History,' 'The Prison,' and a 'Virtual Castle' media presentation.

We had a wonderful private walking tour with Rok. He is very knowledgeable about his city and Slovenia's history, geography and culture. He also has a good sense of humour and we enjoyed our time with Rok. The tour gave us a great overview of Ljubljana and we enjoyed sampling local food.

We loved the proposed walk on the route, certainly the best of our trip to Slovenia. The places visited are beautiful, they seem like fairy tales. Our guide speaks perfect Spanish so it has made things much easier for us. Undoubtedly a 100% recommended excursion.
